The SIXX hotel, as it is now known, is a testament to Li Mi's innovative approach to architecture and design. The hotel is strategically located in the Houhai village of the Haitang Bay, with the South China Sea just 10 meters away and the bustling streets of the village at its back. The unique location and the surfing culture of the Houhai village served as the inspiration for the design.
Li Mi's challenge was to transform the original three-story building, which had served a local fisherman's family for years, into a resort hotel that would reflect the youthful, passionate, and casual vibe of the surfing culture. The renovation involved re-dividing the space and reorganizing the traffic of people and vehicles in a way that would make the hotel stand out, both visually and functionally.
The project, which began in October 2017 and was completed in March 2018, required reinforcing the old structure and refurbishing the interior. The result is a hotel that not only pays homage to the past but also embraces the present, creating a unique blend of tradition and modernity.
Li Mi's design has been recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in 2019, a prestigious accolade given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The award is a testament to Li Mi's ability to create designs that evoke positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
The Renovated Fisherman's House is a shining example of how thoughtful design can breathe new life into old structures, transforming them into spaces that reflect the spirit of their surroundings. It is a testament to Li Mi's innovative approach to architecture and design, and a shining example of how the past can be beautifully woven into the present.
